CINDY HORSTMAN AND MICHAEL MEDINA’S 2tone blends the magic of the electric Jazz harp and the rhythmic strength of the bass in perfect harmony.  The duo creates blends of exciting, smooth, soothing, and sultry music ranging from works by Sting, Pat Metheny, James Taylor, and  original pieces as well.

2tone has been touring nationally for 30 years as roster artists for theTexas Commission on the Arts, Arts Midwest, and Arts Northwest .

2tone's nine CDs and concert DVD were produced by Michael Medina and have received rave reviews including a top 20 popular music award on Amazon.com and featured on the front page of CDBaby.

Cindy Horstman  has been performing, recording, writing, and arranging for harp for the past four decades. Classically trained, she received her Bachelor of Music in Theory / Composition from the University of Texas at Austin.  She is also the first recipient of a Master of Music degree in Harp Performance from the University of Texas and a prize winner in the Lyon & Healy International Jazz Harp Competition.  Her teachers include Gayle Barrington, award winning composer, Donald Grantham, Lucille Lawrence, Alice Chalifoux, and Mimi Allen.

Cindy co-founded the jazz duo, “2tone”, with bassist Michael Medina, the producer of 2tone's 10 CDs. 2tone has toured nationally for 25 years and their recordings have received critical acclaim on Amazon.com and CD Baby.  Their recordings include guest artists such as

“Blue” Lou Marini ( the Blues Brothers ), Gregg Bissonette ( drummer for Ringo Starr ), Keith Carlock ( drummer for Sting ) and Andy Timmons ( solo artist/guitarist).

Horstman’s love of jazz inspired her to write a Jazz Theory Workbook for harpists that has been a best seller on many harp retail websites.  Her jazz-oriented arrangements for harp ensembles are very popular with harpists both nationally and internationally and her award winning compositions include prizes from the American Harp Society chapters in both Dallas and Los Angeles.

Cindy has recently created harp ensemble videos of her music for the American Harp Society’s National Summerfest, Atlanta Harp Center’s Festival, and the Harp in Worship Festival.  Participants submitted their individual videos and she assembled them for a virtual performance. She has also created a video series on arranging that is available on the Harp Column Academy website.

Cindy is the founder, director, composer, and arranger of The Dallas Jazz Harp Ensemble and the 12 member Brookhaven College Harp Ensemble in Dallas, Texas. In both ensembles, she emphasizes arranging and improvising within the jazz idiom.

Michael Medina, a native of Beeville, Texas, moved to Dallas in 1978 and graduated from the University of North Texas.  Michael owns "First Bass Productions", a recording production company that produces projects for a wide variety of artists including 2tone’s CDs. In addition to his work with Horstman, Medina has done extensive studio work, national and local television and radio spots, and recordings and performances with various artists including Luis Conte, Andy Timmons, Ignacio Berroa, Alex Acuna (Weather Report ), Edgar Winter, Gregg Bissonette, and Lou Marini.
Michael’s most recent project is performing, recording, and co-producing with the Redd Coats – a band consisting of Medina, Andy Timmons, and Gregg and Matt Bissonette.  The Redd Coats recently released their first CD and appeared on the front cover of the International Journal of the American Federation of Musicians.  Michael is part of the research and development team at Mesa Boogie involved in creating and perfecting amplifiers for the bass guitar and is currently teaching Audio Engineering at Collin College.
